Skonwahtehrá:wi They Gave Her Back The Roots
From September 5th through October 10th 2026, Deep Water Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Diane Wallace, whose Mohawk name is Skonwahtehrá:wi.
A member of Wahta Mohawk Territory now living in Hope Bay on the Saugeen Peninsula, Wallace has created art throughout her life in watercolour, acrylic, encaustic, pen and ink, linocut, beadwork and clay.
Central to this exhibition is a series of linocuts depicting elements of the Ohèn Karihwatéhkwen — the Thanksgiving Address. Wallace’s work brings together language, culture and science,
with beaded representations of viral pathogens that have disproportionately affected Indigenous peoples also featuring in the show.

Natalie Vanderzand

Natalie Vanderzand is a multidisciplinary artist based on the Saugeen/Bruce Peninsula in Ontario, Canada. She has her BFA from NSCAD University with her current practice mainly centering around contemporary jewellery/object and beadwork. Her work explores ideas of place and home through close observation of the natural world. Drawing inspiration from flora and fauna, waterways and forests, gardens and flowers blooming, Natalie creates pieces that reflect lived landscapes and personal connections to the environments we inhabit. Through intricate material processes and an attention to colour and form, her work considers how memory, land, and belonging become intertwined.
